I’m so used to using interchangeable lens cameras coming from the Canon DSLR system followed by the Fujifilm X series cameras. I like the option of having a variety of high quality lenses to choose from depending on the kind of photography I’m doing. Over the last 4 years, I’ve built up a nice little kit of Fujifilm x mount lenses. However I’ve noticed since I’ve purchased the 23mm f2 lens, it’s been the lens that seldom leaves my XT10 when I’m looking for a general purpose lens.
The Fujifilm X100F is Fujifilm’s fix focal lens crop sensor camera offering. the X100 series was the camera that first Fujifilm camera that caught my eye when I started looking into the mirrorless camera systems. I believe it was also the camera that catapulted Fujifilm into the mirrorless market and garnered a large number of photographer fans. I used to wonder what the fuss was all about, especially when you can’t change lenses. When I had an opportunity to borrow the X100F, I was eager to try it out. It has a 23mm f2 lens attached and is super compact. It’s known to be a street photographer’s ideal camera. I had a couple of weekend trips planned for November this year, which was the perfect opportunity to try it out. I’m generally not that big on camera gear and prefer to use what I have. However, I was attracted to the simplicity of the X100F set-up and I won’t deny that the retro look was also a draw card.
First impressions, wow what a camera. Such a pleasure to use. I didn’t find the transition from the XT10 to the X100F particularly difficult, but it took a little getting used to being a range finder style camera. I liked the fact that it has a hybrid viewfinder, where you can toggle between being an EVF and a range finder. I didn’t think I would like the range finder view but it’s actually pretty cool to be able to see around the frame of the shot. The buttons and controls are placed just where you need them. I loved how light weight the camera is. I could just throw it into my handbag and put it out easily when I find a scene I want to shoot.
I felt like I’ll be giving the camera a good run for its money. So far I’ve taken it overseas to snap some behind the scene photos of family and friends at my brother’s wedding. I will be taking it to Melbourne for some general travel photography and street shooting (hopefully a photowalk with the Fuji X Aus Melbourne crew too somewhere in between!). I’ll also be using it volunteer photographer at the 2019 Open House Perth event. I volunteered as a photographer last year and came away with some nice shots and a great experience. I shot everything with my 23mm f2 and the XT10. This year I’m planning to take the Fujifilm X100F (which has the 23mm focal length) and attach my newest lens addition, the 14mm f2.8 to my XT10 as my second camera.
I’ve barely skimmed the surface having only used the X100F for 1 week so far. I’m looking forward to trying out ACROS film simulation and Richie’s custom film simulations in the coming weeks. Thanks for stopping by today.
