Continuing on with my roadtrip around Iceland. After an awesome night of northern lights, we got up for a day of exploring the sights around Lake Myvatn. There are lots of natural wonders around Lake Myvatn and lots of walking trails. The shot above and below are panoramic shots of Viti Crater. The walk to the top where you get a view of the crater lake is fairly short and steep. You get a pretty good view of your surrounding from the top landing though. In the distance you can see the Krafla Power Plant which is a geothermal powerplant.
We also made the steep walk up Hverfjall crater. Sturdy hiking shoes would be a must. Unfortunately I only have a photo of the walk up from the base of the crater as my camera batteries died when I got to the top!
After the crater, we drove down to Namafjall Hverir geothermal area. The steam coming from the hot bubbling pools make the atmosphere feel very eerie. It’s also one of the coolest places we visited around Lake Myvatn. Be prepared for the sulfurous smelling mud pools, though it isn’t too over powering. The landscapes gives you a surreal feeling and I really liked some of the shots i took here.
Thanks for stopping by today.
