Continuing on with my journey around Lake Myvatn. Part I can be found here. Dimmuborgir is a lava field in Myvatn in Iceland. There are several hiking routes through Dimmuborgir ranging from 10 minutes to 1 hour. The hikes are easy and mostly well paved. We did the 1 hour walk which took us to the rock formation called The Church. We saw lots of people posing in the hole in the rock formation.
After Dimmuborgir, we drove to our next stop called Hofdi, along Lake Myvatn. After walking through a bit of forest and a short upward climb, we were greeted with pretty impressive views of the lake and surrounding areas.
After Hofdi, we drove around Lake Myvatn to our next stop, Skutustadagigar pseudo craters. This was near our Myvatn accommodation where we saw the amazing Northern Lights just the night before. As the name of the place suggest, they are not real craters. Over 2000 years ago when the lava flowed over the wet ground, it trapped a lot of steam in the ground. Eventually when the pressure became too great, the steam exploded and formed these craters.
Thanks for stopping by today.
