Ever since I spent 4 weeks in USA and Canada with a sore shoulder lugging around my Canon DSLR and a handful of lenses in a Kelly Moore camera handbag, I’ve been looking for the elusive “perfect” photo backpack for travelling. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed using my Kelly Moore 2 Sues camera bag. It’s an inconspicuous bag that looks like any other handbag, great for city holidays because you can simply blend into the crowd. Of course there is no such thing as the “perfect” camera bag. There is only the right bag for the right situation, whether it’s going on a outdoor hike or heading into a local cafe for coffee with friends. [Read more…]
Fujifilm X-T10 Travel Kit for New Zealand
I recently returned from a two week road trip around New Zealand. Traditionally I’ve always travelled with a chunky DSLR (the Canon 60D with a handful of lenses), which made for sore backs and shoulders over the days and weeks of travelling. I’ve on the market for a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera for a little while now mostly for the purpose of travelling. After much deliberation and research, Fujifilm finally gave me a good reason to dive into their camera system with the release of the Fujifilm X-T10 in mid 2015. For the most part it met all my criteria for changing from Canon. Canon will always have a place in my photographic life and I don’t intend to be rid of it any time soon, however the Fujifilm system is inspiring me to get out there with my camera more with it’s lightweight and excellent camera and lens system.
I was very excited to be heading to New Zealand and imagined all the photo opportunities there would be, with it’s epic landscapes and countless hikes. Thinking about what to pack in terms of photography was on my mind for the few weeks leading up to my two week New Zealand trip. [Read more…]
Welcome to Travelling Lens.co
Welcome to the Travelling Lens.co, my name is Janice and I am the photographer and blogger behind this website. I live in the beautiful coastal city of Perth in Western Australia.
For as long as I can remember, I always had a passion for the arts and creative pursuits. As a child, I loved writing, arts and craft classes in school and attending drawing classes over school breaks. Despite drifting towards more “conventional” subjects through my adolescent years in school and university, I leaped at any chance to take on an art elective where I could. Even though I ended up pursuing a career in healthcare, photography and writing has become my hobby and creative outlet over the last decade.
I am a self-taught photographer and all the images featured or posted on this website are created by yours truly, unless otherwise specified. I have started blogs using various blogging platforms in the past. As a result I have taught myself simple HTML coding and website building on and off over the years. I have finally settled on a self-hosted service and created a website that I intend to cultivate over time.
There were many reasons for why I delayed starting a website such as a lack of time or technical knowledge, but one of the main reasons for not starting sooner is because I didn’t have a website name that I was particularly happy with, that represented what I wanted to share. You may be wondering what inspired me to come up with the name the Travelling Lens.co. It all came about on a recent trip to New Zealand with a close friend who I have known for over a decade. I shared my thoughts on wanting to start a blog but feeling stuck on a name. Over the course of two weeks in New Zealand, taking in amazing sights and experiences, and brain storming all sorts of names, the Travelling Lens.co came to me. Many people view travelling as going to faraway places, but to me, travelling can be occur both near and far from home. It is a journey through life’s challenges and joys. The name Travelling Lens.co reflects my eagerness to explore and capture life through my eyes, to connect with others and to create beautiful content.
This is my online visual journal, capturing my travels, experiences and musing. It is where I combine my passion for simplicity, travel, food, culture and photography. I’m driven to document the ordinary and simple things in life and whatever else that brings me joy. To start with I intend to publish once a week on Tuesdays then increase to twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Please join me on this new adventure. You can connect with me on Instagram or Facebook and subscribe via email or RSS feed to keep up to with my latest adventures and thoughts.
