On a Saturday a few weeks ago, I head into the city an hour earlier than I needed to explore while most of the city was still asleep. I was keen to use my newly purchased Fujinon 14mm f2.8 lens for some architecture and street shooting. I meandered my way around Westralia Square, Wolf Lane, King Street and Railway Lane. My comfort zone is shooting around the 23mm or 25mm focal lengths (on a crop sensor). Shooting so wide was definitely out of my comfort zone, but such a fun photographic challenge. I absolutely loved the lens. As I mentioned in my previous blog post, the distortion is minimal when I took the time to line things up nicely.

This is the third and final part of my wide angle lens experience blog series. If you haven’t read my two wide angle lens write-ups, you can find them here
Today my focus is on the Fujinon 14mm f2.8. The lens that I ultimately bought and added to my Fujifilm kit. It is one of the oldest lenses on the X mount lineup, released way back in 2012! It has a similar size, weight and feel as the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens. It even has the same lens hood and filter size. This means all my current ND and polarising filters will fit nicely on this lens. This is a great bonus as I’m planning to use this lens to do landscape and long exposure photography.

If you haven’t read my first of the three wide angle lens write-ups, you can find the first one on my experiences with the Laowa 9mm f2.8 lens here. This is the part 2 of my 3 part series on my wide angle lens experience. Today, I focus on the the two 16mm offerings from Fujifilm. The f1.4 lens was the first of the two Fujinon 16mm lens to be released to the market back in 2015.

A few months ago I was fortunate enough to borrow a few Fujifilm X mount lens to experiment and play around with (thanks Camera Electronics) as I was interested in getting a wide angle lens to complement my current kit of Fujifilm camera lenses. There were a few reasons for expanding my kit to include a wide angle. I was interested in a wide angle for night sky photography, landscapes and cityscapes. Secondly I was also looking for a wide angle for doing some interior and architectural photography.
The options that I was interested to try were: Fujifilm 14mm f2.8, Fujifilm 16mm f2.8, Fujifilm 16mm f1.4 and Laowa 9mm f2.8. I’ve now gone through the hundreds of photos I have taken when I had these lenses on loan. I thought it would be a bit of fun for me to do a quick write up on my experience and thoughts using each of the lenses. Spoiler alert, I bought the Fujifilm 14mm f2.8 lens.

If you haven’t heard of a little neighborhood cafe in Perth called Cafe Leadman you should check it out! I’m not generally one to visit a cafe multiple times in a short space (I love trying new places!) yet I did visit Cafe Leadman twice in a month. The food is a little bit Asian inspired (there’s a fancy giant bowl of gourmet Mi Goreng) and very tasty. My favourite is actually the prawn brioche roll, which I ordered on both occasions.
