On the second day of Open House Perth, I focused on zooming around the inner city suburbs of Perth. I photographed some of the most popular residential destinations. I really got to practice my architectural photography. In addition I limited myself to shooting with only the 23mm f2 lens.
Open House Perth 2018, Part II
In the last couple of years some awesome inner city hotels and eateries have opened up on Perth. These were some of my highlights from day 1 of photographing in the city area for Open House Perth.
Open House Perth 2018, Part I
Open House Perth is one of many annual events held in Perth. Open House started out in the UK as an architectural event showcasing the importance of good design. It has expanded to a heap of cities around the world and Perth is one of them! The first event in Perth was back in 2012 and I found out about it a few years ago from a friend. Since then I’ve attended for the last few years. It’s very much grown into a big event in Perth. Getting people to get out and about exploring our own backyard. Not only that, you also get to go behind the scenes and into buildings that you don’t normally get to visit. Whether it’s people’s architecturally designed homes or corporate buildings and rooftops. There’s something for everyone. From the inner cities areas of North Perth and Mt Hawthorn to the Perth Hills in the east. Down to Fremantle and cross to the western beachy suburbs. In the past I’ve been to buildings such as Brookfield, QV1 and Channel 9 News. You can check blog posts from Open House Perth 2017 here, here and here. Perth Street Photography
I was in the Perth city area on the weekend and had a spare hour before my next commitment. I figured I would take the opportunity to just walk around and shoot some urban landscapes and street photography. I don’t often do street portraits or intentionally include people in my shots. This time I tried to include people where possible to add some movement and story to my photos. I tried to keep this session simple. All JPEGs in Classic Chrome film simulation. I did import it into Lightroom and did some light retouching.
Fuji X Aus October Meet Up, Kings Park
Our awesome Fuji X Aus PERTH reps, Gus and Chong, pulled together a meet up for October (when they are already busily organise an over night trip down to Margaret River for November!) last Tuesday night with a pretty great turn out! Despite somewhat of a cold spring night in Perth, we had around 10 people rock up (might be the largest Perth meet up so far… yay Perth). The theme of the meet up was long exposure photography and Kings Park were we tried out hand at capturing light trail from the cars on the freeway.
It was a great excuse for me to take out my tripod and pull out my favourite low light lens. The Fujifilm X-T10 and my trusty 35mm f1.4 did a pretty decent job of capturing the night lights, if I may say so myself. Gus also had a surprise for us that night…. the brand new Fujifil X-T3! It was great fun getting to play around with it wit the 35mm f2 on the camera.Guess which of the 5 images on this shot was taken with the X-T3 🙂 Answer will be revealed at the end. Even though I was testing out the camera in almost pitch black, it was familiar enough for me to get it up and running. I really enjoyed using the X-T2 so I didn’t expect the X-T3 to disappoint… and it didn’t. If i was on the market for a new camera that would likely be my pick. But alas, my little X-T10 is still doing a fine job for me.
