Young Love Mess Hall is yet another new kid on along William Street in Northbridge. The last thing I remember being there was a Malaysian restaurant. The place has been renovated into a hip new restaurant and bar. While there are a few booths, small sized tables and bar-style high table/chairs, the most prominent seating arrangement is the mess hall style long communal table. I love the hanging garden from the ceiling and walkway, it’s a nice contrast to the off black coloured walls. I liked how they kept the round archway which separates the bar area from the other dining area. It reminds me that the restaurant has some Asian influence to it.
The Art Gallery of Western Australia
The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is located in the Perth Cultural Centre precinct. It’s a short walk from the Perth Train Station, making it convenient to get to. It houses the state art collection which includes Indigenous art, contemporary art and 19th/20th century paintings. After a coffee stop at Eilio, my friend and I headed met up with another friend at AGWA. It was my first time visiting AGWA. While it may not be as impressive as many of the galleries and museums in North America or Europe, nor comparable to NSW Art Gallery which I recently visited on my trip to Sydney. It is still great to see investment and support given to AGWA, injecting Perth with art and culture.
Say hello to Eillo in Northbridge
On my way to the Art Gallery of Western Australia last weekend, my friend and I stumbled upon a neat little cafe called Eillo. This gorgeous narrow little coffee house opened up along William St in Northbridge earlier this year. As we only had time for coffee, we didn’t get to try any of the delicious looking pastries in on display (Cruffin, a croissant and a muffin!) nor any of the toasties on the menu. The coffee used by Eillo is from Perth’s own Micrology Coffee Roasters.
Breakfast at Satchmo Cafe, North Perth
Satchmo Cafe is a little hidden gem in North Perth. It’s been on my to-eat list for a little while now but I didn’t have an excuse to check it out until the Sunday just past. As my friend and I had separate commitments after mid morning, we decided on an early breakfast catch up before the Sunday brunch crowd hit. If I wasn’t looking for the cafe, I would have easily missed it! Given it was early in the morning, there were plenty of parking spots out the front which is a lovely bonus.
Whisk Creamery, Subiaco
Whisk Creamery in Subiaco has been around the Perth dessert scene for almost two years. I only got a chance to check it out a few months ago when I was in Subi for dinner.
