Australia went further and further into lock-down mode throughout the month of March 2020. I was inspired by other photographers I followed who shared their ideas what they were going to do during this lockdown period to keep up with their photography, business and creativity. The COVID-19 pandemic is definitely one for the history books. Like many photographers out there, I thought doing a mini documentary project to capture daily life during this historic period of time would be interesting and insightful. Something I could look back upon and tell the story of what it felt like living during a pandemic through my own eyes.

I spent a bit of time over the Easter long weekend going through some of the my end of 2019, early 2020 photos of my cafe and restaurant adventures. For some reason I enjoy taking these food and drink snaps but seldom find a reason to share them. I thought why not put together a series of food and drink images into a blog post. These are all local joints in Perth. Hopefully when we are all released from our social isolation, we can all head out and support some of our local businesses, especially if they’re closed at this time.

Back on the 1st of March, before Australia went into lock-down due to COVID-19, Perth hosted a massive AC/DC tribute concert as part of Perth Festival 2020. The concert shut down Canning Highway from Applecross through to Fremantle. Festival goers lined one side of Canning Highway, while the 8 trucks carrying 8 bands rolled along the other side of Canning Highway. The trucks stopped at designed spots to play a song or two before rolling on to the next spot.

It’s March 2020 as I’m writing up this blog post. I haven’t been as active on my blog as I had hope for 2020 due to personal and professional reasons. As COVID-19 has evolved into a global pandemic, my professional work has gotten much busier as I work in the healthcare industry. On the flip side, social distancing measures has meant all my social and personal commitments has dropped off. This has also meant I’ve found some time to work on editing my very large backlog of photos over the weekend. I finally finished culling, reviewing and editing the last chunk of photos from my New Zealand roadtrip from a few years ago (more on that in future blog posts!). I also picked out some keeper photos from my photowalk around WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle last year.
Around 6 months ago, I spent the a few of hours of a Sunday afternoon exploring around WA Maritime Museum and the streets of Fremantle. Coincidentally the day we decided to walk around Fremantle was also the day there was a massive number of photographers and models doing some group shoots around Fremantle. They spent a lot of time shooting around the museum so it was hards not to bump into a photographer!
I haven’t seen these photos since I first took the photos in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised at how many photos I liked from this afternoon of shooting. Unfortunately I didn’t bother taking my tripod with me for this photowalk. Otherwise I might have been able to get some nice long exposure photos as around sunset/after sunset time. I also decided to experiment with some high dynamic range photomerge images for a bit of fun when I was photo editing. See if you can spot which ones they are!
Thanks for stopping by today and happy shooting (indoors).

ASCA Regional Championships, Perth Optus Stadium
Back in November, I had the opportunity to photograph one of the baristas from Veneziano Coffee Roasters who was participating in the brewing category of the regional coffee championships hosted by Australian Specialty Coffee Association. While I’m a coffee drinker and enjoy a variety of coffees from espresso coffee to cold brew and pour overs, specialty coffee competitions was a whole new world to me. I learned quite a bit about the coffee competition in my few hours of hanging out to watch and photograph the event.
