I had a great time meeting up with our (small) group of Perth Fuji X Aus photographers down in Fremantle on the weekend. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon to be walking around Fremantle. We met up at the entrance of Fremantle Markets and spent a bit of time catching up with fellow photographers and meeting new ones. I always find it so enjoyable getting to chat to others about photography and what we shoot. As always we can count on Fujifilm Australia to send in some cool merchandise to our awesome Perth Reps.
I thought the theme for the photowalk was creatively challenging. Kudos to our two reps Gus and Chong for organising it. We were each asked to pick an item at the beginning: pen, torch or keychain. Little did we know our photo challenge for the day was to come up with a shot using the item that we selected! I picked the torch and I was racking my brain on how on earth I can incorporate it creatively into a shot. While I was no winner for the day, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. It really forced me to think creatively, and I also gave myself an additional layer to the challenge. I decided to shoot straight black and white only for the day. Here are some of my shots from the photowalk, with some light editing in Lightroom. I did sneak in a few colour shots at the end, but I was shooting on black & white film simulation throughout the afternoon. The shot below was one of my first shots of the day but also the shot I ended up submitting to the challenge since I thought played well into the theme.
Scattered in between my shots of Fremantle below will be shots were I product-placed the Fujifilm torch light. I was going for a photography/travel theme. I also love symmetry and architectural/urban photography so I did end up taking some photos along those veins as well. Today’s configuration was the Fujifilm X-T10 and the 35mm f1.4. I don’t take out my primes often enough and I always take the opportunity of a photowalk to use my prime lenses. In addition the lightweight combination of camera and lens is a great bonus.
As always, it was a great day out with other Fujifilm shooters. It’s been great being part of the Fuji X Aus community and I’m looking forward to the next meetup. Thanks for stopping by today.
