The Old Parliament House was the home to the Australian Federal Parliament from 1927 to 1988. It has now been converted into a living museum, the Museum of Australian Democracy. For the price of a gold coin donation, the museum helps people understand Australia’s social and political history. Many key political events took place in this historic building.
We managed to join a scheduled group tour when we were there. It was very interesting to hear some stories from Australia’s past and learn about how the Australian political system works. It was also great to get a glimpse into the various rooms in the Old Parliament House, including the Prime Minister’s suite. There were also various exhibitions on show which didn’t get to spent much time on. If you are a government and history buff, you can easily spend half a day to a day exploring the various rooms and exhibitions.
I’m grateful to have visited and developed a basic understanding of the Australian politics and influence of the British political system. If you are in Canberra and wouldn’t mind a bit of immersion into Australian history, I would recommend checking out the Old Parliament house. Thanks for stopping by today.
