My Future House was another favourite location from Open House Perth 2019. It’s a single story residence designed initially as a future house for retirement. A house that has low maintenance, easy access and a flexible space. Located in the leafy suburb of Shenton Park. It’s a quaint, whimsical and homely place. A very popular location at this year’s event. I focused on capturing people admiring, enjoying and gaining inspiration from visiting this space. For some reason, I was very attracted to the yellow door that open out to the small front yard!

This year is the 4 year in a row that I’ve attended Open House Perth event and the second year I volunteered to photograph some of the amazing locations. Each year Open House Perth gets bigger and better and this year was no different. I didn’t make it to as many locations this year compared to last year but I still enjoyed checking out and photographing a number of residential properties. The next series of blog posts will be on my highlights from Open House Perth 2019.
[Read more…]My initial impressions of the Fujifilm X100F
I’m so used to using interchangeable lens cameras coming from the Canon DSLR system followed by the Fujifilm X series cameras. I like the option of having a variety of high quality lenses to choose from depending on the kind of photography I’m doing. Over the last 4 years, I’ve built up a nice little kit of Fujifilm x mount lenses. However I’ve noticed since I’ve purchased the 23mm f2 lens, it’s been the lens that seldom leaves my XT10 when I’m looking for a general purpose lens.

I spent 4 days in Sydney at the end of September to attend a friend’s wedding (who also happens to be a photographer) and took the opportunity to explore a bit more of Sydney. During this short getaway, I met with with fellow Fuji X Aus Sydney-siders as well as John from Adelaide for a Sunday morning photo walk. It was so timely that both myself and John were in Sydney the same weekend. We kicked off our meetup with some coffee at Kurtosh then walked around Darling Square, Darling Harbour and a bit of the CBD. The Sydney crew was so welcoming towards us interstate visitors! Couldn’t have asked for a more friendly bunch of photographers. It was great to put some faces to the names and online exchanges that I have had with some of the photographers in the group. That has always been the best part about the Fuji X Aus community. I didn’t expect more than 2 other photographers to be free to catch up, but it turned out to be a group of 7 of us!

On a Saturday a few weeks ago, I head into the city an hour earlier than I needed to explore while most of the city was still asleep. I was keen to use my newly purchased Fujinon 14mm f2.8 lens for some architecture and street shooting. I meandered my way around Westralia Square, Wolf Lane, King Street and Railway Lane. My comfort zone is shooting around the 23mm or 25mm focal lengths (on a crop sensor). Shooting so wide was definitely out of my comfort zone, but such a fun photographic challenge. I absolutely loved the lens. As I mentioned in my previous blog post, the distortion is minimal when I took the time to line things up nicely.
