If you haven’t heard of a little neighborhood cafe in Perth called Cafe Leadman you should check it out! I’m not generally one to visit a cafe multiple times in a short space (I love trying new places!) yet I did visit Cafe Leadman twice in a month. The food is a little bit Asian inspired (there’s a fancy giant bowl of gourmet Mi Goreng) and very tasty. My favourite is actually the prawn brioche roll, which I ordered on both occasions.

A few weekends ago, we headed to Swan Valley for lunch and decided to swing by Yahava KoffeeWorks after lunch. It was pretty busy with tourists and locals alike. If you’re a coffee and tea enthusiast, it’s a cool shop to check out. They sell all things coffee and tea related, from beans through to coffee quotes on magnets.

A couple of months ago, we decided to do a 1-night staycation at QT Perth. It was a public holiday long weekend and rather than travelling interstate or join the bustle of driving down south to the wine region, we decided to make QT Perth our home away from home. Since my last visit to QT Perth as a volunteer photographer for Open House Perth, I’ve been interested in actually staying at QT Perth. I was attracted to it’s modern and whimsical architecture and interior. The hotel experience didn’t disappoint.

Last week, after the sunrise shoot in Applecross with James, I grabbed a much needed coffee and got chatting about all things the art of photography. One of the many things discussed was the idea of shooting in JPEG only using custom film simulation settings on Fujifilm cameras. It’s an intriguing idea and to be honest the film simulations was what converted me from a Canon DSLR shooter to the Fujifilm X series cameras. When I first got the X-T10, I was still using Lightroom 4 and it wasn’t able to read .RAF files. That meant I was shooting JPEGs only using the in-built film simulations and was rather pleased with my images back in the day. As the months went by, I decided to jump onto Lightroom CC and had access to editing the raw files. I haven’t really gone back to shooting just JPEGs since for the most part.

Last weekend I braved the cold morning and headed out to shoot the sunrise near Raffles Hotel in Applecross with the talented landscape photographer James (you should check out his work if you don’t know him!). The last time I woke up before the sun rose was probably during last year’s FXA Landscape Photography Workshop down south. As it’s currently winter in Perth, sunrise is generally closer to 7am in the morning. So waking up a bit before 6am to head out doesn’t seem too bad if I can brave the chilly morning.
