Exploring Sydney’s Chinatown and Fish Market

I’m really glad we decided to stay at an AirBnB in Surry Hills. It’s really the perfect location to explore Sydney. It’s walking distance to the all the popular sights of Sydney. It’s also the perfect location for foodies. There are countless of cafes, bars and restaurants within walking distance. Surry Hills as a inner city suburb is also quite pretty, with it’s colourful terrace houses and corner cafes. It can get pretty rowdy along Oxford Street and Crown Street at night, but I didn’t feel unsafe walking around during the day or night.

Hiking Victoria Reservoir and brunching at Jack & Jill in Kalamunda

Since my trip to New Zealand last year, I became interested in hiking and exploring nature. I’m by no means an outdoorsy person, but I find walking in nature very peaceful. I’ve been following the hiking adventures of The Life of Py since I first heard of it last year from a couple of colleagues but never quite made it to any of the organised hikes last year. I managed to attend the Life of Py’s first hike of 2017 a few weeks ago. It was a nice and easy trail called the Victoria Reservoir Trail up in Carmel. As it was the first hike of the year and a fairly easy one, there was a massive turn out (probably around 30+ people). We met at 8.30am along Masonmill Road to start the 7km loop. It was a lovely day to be hiking in the morning. It was great to see hikers of all ages (including children!) doing the hike with us. The loop only took us around 1.5 hours to complete at a fairly leisurely pace, with a few stops along the way to allow people to catch up.

Sydney Opera House

I just couldn’t get enough of Australia’s most iconic building. This is the view of Sydney Opera House from The Rocks. I had some time before the night walking tour of The Rocks started. I managed to capture these photos during dusk (with a bit of creative post processing in Lightroom).

Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay

Circular Quay

The Sydney Opera House is spectacular from afar or close up. It’s a remarkable landmark. If we had more time I definitely would have done the Opera House tour. The Opera House was conceptualised in the 1950s and completed in the 1970s. It was Australia’s most iconic building and number one tourist destination. We walked from Circular Quay, along the foreshore, all the way to the Opera House. As expected the walk was full of tourists. Being late in the afternoon, the light was beautiful and golden.

State Library of NSW and it’s surrounds

After exploring Martin Place, we continued exploring the rest of Sydney’s CBD. One of my favourite finds was the Public Library Of New South Wales. There is a new and old section of the library and also a few exhibition galleries within the library. We spent a bit of time exploring the place, from the modern Governor Marie Bashir Reading Room to the grand Mitchell Library Reading Room.

For lunch we were craving Dimsum. Place Chinese Restaurant was listed as one of the top place for dimsum in the CBD. It was pack full of office workers on their lunch break. Dimsum was definitely a nice change in cuisine.

After lunch, we spent more time exploring the CBD, walking all the way to Circular Quay.
