I recently went to watch Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things at a local theatre. Since I heard about The Minimalist producing a documentary earlier this year, I was looking forward to watching it when it was released in the theatres in Australia in July. Watching the documentary has inspired me to write this personal post on my thoughts on the trending concept of minimalism. For me personally the documentary didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know about minimalism. It is however a brilliant and engaging introduction for those who have never heard of or have a misunderstood perception of what minimalism is. It’s not about living with as few items as possible or getting rid of everything. It is so much more than that.
Hiking Lesmurdie Falls on a winter day
Since coming back from New Zealand, I’ve been inspired to hike and explore the outdoors more. Lesmurdie Falls located in the Perth Hills area is only 30 minutes away from Perth. It is probably one of the most accessible, well known short hikes in Perth. Instead of doing our usual outdoor boxing/circuit session on the weekend, my friends and I decided to do a hike instead. It was quite a chilly winter day but we were soon warmed up once we started our hike. The trail was pretty quiet because of the cool weather and possible rain that day. So we pretty much had the trail to ourselves, only seeing a handful of other hikers.
Perth Urban Landscape Photowalk
Perth is Western Australia’s capital city. Western Australia is the biggest state in Australia but it is only home to over 2.5 million people. It’s more famous for it’s outback, national parks and regional towns than it is for Perth city itself. The city has grown so much in the last five years with it’s new laneways, bars and eateries. Coffee culture has also exploded in and around the city. The city itself has a mix of both old and new buildings, which makes it an interesting place to explore and photograph.
Exploring Araluen Botanic Park
Araluen Botanic Park is located in Perth Hills, just 35km from Perth city. The 59 hectares of garden and park is home to many Australia and international plants and flowers. It’s a well maintained and curated park. It gave me a serene and peaceful feeling as I explored the park.
Getting lost at Bells Rapid
During one my of days off after coming back from New Zealand, I met up with an ex-colleague of mine who loves her hikes and coffee for just that. We started our day at a relatively new cafe in Innaloo called Cup & Co. According to the owner, they’ve only been open for around 6 months at the time. I love having weekdays off from work. It’s nice to drive a little further out to suburbs I don’t normally go to. The barista Simone is a fun kind of guy. He chatted to plenty of regulars who popped in to grab a take away coffee while we were there.
