A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by friend and developer IE House to do a fun collaboration with a coffee roaster Pastel Coffee and newly opened Sanctum Cafe in Victoria Park. The premise of the photoshoot was to do a lifestyle branding shoot featuring Pastel Coffee’s Sanctum blend that is purpose roasted for Sanctum Cafe. The key photographs we were aiming to achieve were day in the life style images of enjoying coffee at home, making coffee at home (espresso style and pour over filter coffee) and also some product shots of the coffee itself.

Happy New Year! I have shared an annual review on this blog for the last 5 years (since the inception of this blog back in 2016. I’m not about to break that tradition! The purpose of these blog posts for me to reflect on my photography and aspects of my life related to photography, and also to discuss what I’m looking forward to in 2022. If anything the last 2 years has taught us is that things don’t always go according to plan and adapting to changes life throws at your is more important than executing the perfect plan.

When Presto Photo got in contact with me asking if I was interested in reviewing one of their products my ears perked up. I noticed they offered a range of photo products including photobooks, wall art, calendars and so forth. I have yet to try my hand at printing wall art for the home so I was keen to check out their products and try out their online ordering system. Over the Easter Long weekend back in early April, I went on my first proper photowalk in 2021 with my Fujifilm X-T4 camera with the Fujifilm 23mm f2 lens. It was the first time I was using The X-T4 for full on a casual walk. So far I’ve only used the X-T4 for client work and just haven’t had much free time this year to just do photography for fun. For the walk I decided to use Ritchie’s Kodachrome II Film Simulation recipe. It has a bit of an old school nostalgic look.

Event photographers are documentarians. Or at least that’s my view and style of event photography. I aim to be present but at the same time blend into the background enough to capture the elusive candid moments.
My process has evolved over the years as I gained more experience as a photographer and got more comfortable around strangers. Every event is a new challenge, even if you think you know how the sequence of events typically goes. When you throw in a bunch of different people in a new environment, you just never know what will happen.
I’m no expert when it comes to event photography. I’m simply sharing my personal experiences and what I have learned over the years as I have photographed for friends, family and clients.
