Open House Perth is one of many annual events held in Perth. Open House started out in the UK as an architectural event showcasing the importance of good design. It has expanded to a heap of cities around the world and Perth is one of them! The first event in Perth was back in 2012 and I found out about it a few years ago from a friend. Since then I’ve attended for the last few years. It’s very much grown into a big event in Perth. Getting people to get out and about exploring our own backyard. Not only that, you also get to go behind the scenes and into buildings that you don’t normally get to visit. Whether it’s people’s architecturally designed homes or corporate buildings and rooftops. There’s something for everyone. From the inner cities areas of North Perth and Mt Hawthorn to the Perth Hills in the east. Down to Fremantle and cross to the western beachy suburbs. In the past I’ve been to buildings such as Brookfield, QV1 and Channel 9 News. You can check blog posts from Open House Perth 2017 here, here and here. This year, I threw my hat in the ring and decided to volunteer as a photographer for the event. What better way than to keep an event like this going than to be part of the volunteer team. This year there 100+ destinations for people to check out, and many new additions to the mix. Over the next few blog posts, I’ll be showcasing the highlights from my 2 full days of volunteering for the event. I spent the first day exploring mainly in Perth city locations and the second day driving to 11 residential locations. All shots were taken with the Fujifilm X-T10 and the 23mm f2 lens.
After going to Open House HQ in West Perth to pick up my volunteer lanyard, I headed to the first destination of the day, Jardan Perth. It’s a shop selling retro modern furniture that I didn’t know existed! Tucked away behind some tall leafy trees. It show cases some gorgeous furniture that I would like to have one day.
St George’s Cathedral a beautiful church in Cathedral Square, next to the new Perth City library and COMO treasury building. The interior is simple and beautiful. With stained glass windows and a giant church organ. It’s the quintessential cathedral.
Next up will be showcasing some of Perth’s newest additions. Thanks for stopping by today.
