Since I stopped working in Perth city a few years ago, I’m not often in the city during the week. A few weeks ago, I was in the city for a work-related meeting on a Thursday afternoon. After the meeting I took the opportunity to hang around for an hour or so to do some late afternoon street photography. Fellow photographer Robert also managed to join me briefly towards the end of my walk. The 4.30pm to 5.30pm was pretty good. I loved the long shadows and warm light. As it was a Thursday afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people out and about in the City. It was mostly people rushing home after work. After 5.30pm the streets were relatively empty. I managed to get a few street scenes with people in it.
I also experimented with shooting in raw and JPEG with the intention of post-processing my raws and comparing it to the JPEG shots. It was definitely comparable and at times hard to tell the difference! The raws were good for some scenes where the highlights and shadows were a tad bit off and I wanted to push/pull the images a little bit more.
These shots were all taken on the Fujifilm X-T10 with my favourite 35mm f1.4 lens. Here are some of the highlights of my walkaround.
Perth has always had the small city/big town vibe even before the pandemic. Now with the pandemic and lots of people working from home, the city has no doubt gotten quieter. It was still really enjoyable to get out and about to photograph some street scenes. Let me know which is your favourite image, can you tell what is a JPEG and what has been edited?
Thanks for stopping by today, happy shooting.
