Architecture and interior design has been a long standing interest of mine. I was close to studying architecture after school, but life took me on a different path. I always enjoying looking at well curated spaces and interesting building designs. During my travels to various places in the world, I love checking out different buildings in the area and doing urban photography. In the last few years of Open House Perth, I had volunteered as a photographer and got to hone my architecture and interior photography skills.
Last year I had a great opportunity to photography a unique building project for a friend. The 3×3 House project is not your typical “Aussie home” that’s for sure. Developed by IE House and designed by Gerry Kho Architects. It draws on contemporary and traditional Japanese design and architecture. The project has prioritised functionality of the space as well as a clean and detailed design.
The exterior of of the 3 townhouse draws your attention due to the unique design. However the interior feels like a well design sanctuary that maximises the use of all the nooks and crannies in the house.
I love the entrance way into the home where you can place your shoes underneath the bench. There’s also a massive cupboard where you can store outdoor gear such as a bicycle or dirty boots.
Wood features throughout the house, giving off a very warm and inviting feeling. Black accents throughout the house in the form of indoor railing, windows and shelving adds a contemporary touch. The house was furnished with a Japandi and Scandinavian style. I loved the pops of colour in the space, but also loved the simple and clean furnishing.
I photographed the project over multiple days to ensure I got furnished and unfurnished images of the houses. We also wanted some nice twilight images of the house. I had such a fun time working on the project and bringing the client’s vision to life. Photographing this project cemented my interest in continuing to pursue photographing architectural but in particular interior photography.
All the images were taken using the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T4 camera, with the 14mm f2.8 and 23mm f2 lenses.
Thanks for stopping by today. To see more images from the 3×3 IE House project, check it out here.
