I’ve just coming back from a Tasmanian roadtrip a couple of weeks ago. Work has kept me preoccupied, which resulted in one week of silence on this blog. This has been the first instance since I got back to work on the next blog post. After an enjoyable day in the Blue Mountains, we spent a few hours exploring the streets of Cabramatta and finished off our day enjoying some Vietnamese food in the heart of the one of the largest Vietnamese communities in Australia.
Cabramatta, or “Cabra” as it’s known by the locals, is located around an hour out of Sydney by train. Walking the around the main pedestrian malls (John Street), where all the small businesses are located, it’s like you’ve walked right into Asia. There is even an arch that is typically seen at the entrance of Chinatowns around the world. You have a plethora of restaurants to choose from, mainly serving Vietnamese food as well as other South-East Asian cuisines. There are also plenty of Asian fresh produce grocers.
I really enjoyed spending a couple of hours exploring and photographing Cabramatta as people winded down for the day. I loved post-processing these images in black and white. It gave the scene a more grungy look, befitting of the streets. It was tough to pick which local Vietnamese restaurant to have dinner in given the choices! On our friend’s recommendation we decided to try Tan Viet for it’s crispy chicken. It was a delicious local meal, a good change from all the cafes and restaurant food we’ve had to so in the trip.
Thanks for stopping by today.
