As many of us spend so much of our time at home these days due to COVID-19, cooking and baking has taken off! I’ve been enjoying researching recipes and watching YouTube videos of chefs showing people how to many simple meals at home. I’m spending much of my non-work time either grocery shopping or at learning to cook a new dish or two on the weekend and also some photo editing my backlog of photos. To try to squeeze in some actual physical activity since gyms have been closed, I’ve tried to walk to do my grocery shopping or do some in-home yoga and exercises. I’m not a particularly good cook but I have enjoyed trying a range of more time consuming dishes like making dumplings and lasagne. On my walks, I have also tried to support local cafes by buying takeaway coffee and food.
You can find more information on my mini social distancing documentary project in part I. I have been enjoying practicing my photography in these restricted times. In some ways the limitations forces me to “be more creative” and more thoughtful about my composition. Documentary photography is also something I enjoy doing.
We’ve kept a slightly larger stock of food than normal to minimise going to the shops too often.
Since lock-down we’ve decided to try a few different coffee beans to make our own fresh press coffee or cold brew. We’ve also tried to make our own “big breakfasts” on the weekend in place of going out for brunch or lunch.
My attempt at making my first lasagna was pretty successful, though it did take me a few hours to make on a Sunday evening. At least it fed us for a few meals and was pretty delicious!
Supporting local shops where I can. Steamlab is a great little cafe with great food and coffee.
Gloves and good hand sanitation is the norm at all the grocery stores these days. I always enjoy going into the a Good Grocer, they tend to have some more niche products that perhaps aren’t stocked at the big grocers. The rottisserie meats are always a good choice for a quick easy meal to go.
Thanks for stopping by today and stay safe!

Hi Khurt, thanks so much for popping by to ask after me! that means a lot to me! I hope you and your family have been safe and well over in the US.
The last few weeks have been busy work wise and in my personal life. I did start drafting up a new blog series this weekend on my New Zealand trip from a while back. so that will be up soon hopefully! I’ve also spent the last few weeks where I had freetime making my first photobook using blurb, that has been quite the experience so I’m looking forward to getting the book in June. I’ll be doing a review of the blurb-Lightroom integration, my experience with making/telling a story as part of creating the photobook as well as a review of actual printing quality. So that’s a sneak peak into some upcoming posts in June so do stay tuned 😀
p.s. love the isolation project you have going on there.
