Heading towards the West Fjords of Iceland marks the last leg of our roadtrip around Iceland before we head back to the Reykjavik. This part of Iceland is not often on the radar for tourists being somewhat out of the way. The roads are often known to be a bit rough and difficult (Again our 4WD came in super handy!). Thankfully most of the roads we drove on were pretty well maintained main roads. The roads, towns and sights in this part of Iceland was noticeably quieter. Definitely for travellers who want a road less travelled.
One of the first things we did in the West Fjords was visit a wool factory shop. Icelandic woolly jumpers are quite a popular souvenir for tourists. What better way to check out the jumpers that at a very local factory shop. My travel buddies we very keen on buying and wearing their Icelandic jumpers for the rest of the trip.
Borðeyri was one of the many small towns that we dropped by that morning. In fact it’s the smallest town in Iceland of just 16 inhabitants! It was lovely to walk about the small town and do some photography.
We passed eerie landscapes and towns with very small numbers of inhabitants. I loved the quaint colourful houses we passed and the open landscapes. Of course we also went past lots of small churches.
When we made our last grocery stop for the trip at Bonus and got fuel at Orkan, the afternoon light was fantastic. I took the opportunity to photograph the two places important places that kept us on the road and fed throughout our trip.
These are some of my favourite shots from Iceland. It brings me back to my love of shooting urban and nature landscapes as well as architecture when I travel. Thanks for stopping by today.
